Remembrance events have been held across our prisons, giving our staff and those in our care the opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all our armed forces.

Staff have laid wreaths at Cenotaphs in villages and towns local to establishments while the Veterans in Custody Support Officers (VICSOs) from HMP Shotts spent a day collecting for the Poppy Scotland Charity on the busy streets of Glasgow.

One of the VICSOs, Fraser Stones, who also works as the Health & Safety Coordinator in the establishment, was selected to represent the SPS at the Cenotaph, in London, on Remembrance Sunday.

Having served in the Royal Military Police, Fraser is a veteran and was one of 150 individuals who made up this years’ Civilian Service Contingencies (CSC). The CSC forms twenty-five percent of the static guard of honour around the Cenotaph, taking their place on Whitehall, alongside the Army, the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, during the laying of wreaths by His Majesty.

In HMP&YOI Polmont, the young men in our care have worked with graffiti artist Dan MC and Iain Corbett from the Children and Young People's Centre for Justice to create a mural in the prison's remembrance garden - providing a fitting backdrop for the services held there for many years to come.
