On 25th September, the Scottish Prison Service marked the annual Hidden Heroes day; a day to recognise the essential and challenging nature of the work undertaken by prison and other criminal justice services across the UK.

Prisons are home to some of society’s most vulnerable people. Life inside them can be challenging, it can be chaotic and at times, it can be dangerous. Our staff are tasked with supporting individuals during some of the most difficult periods in their lives and they do so with incredible humility, often never fully realising themselves, the positive impact that they have.

Across the country, senior management teams welcomed their colleagues into work, and served countless breakfast rolls, cakes, and cups of tea. Governors awards, King's Coronation commemorative coins, and nominated 'local hero' awards all added to the day's special recognition for those who routinely go above and beyond.
