EVERY September, Recovery Month is held to increase awareness, challenge stigma, and celebrating the achievements of those on a recovery journey to overcoming problematic alcohol or drug use.

The Scottish Prison Service works alongside a number of partners to help people in prison with addictions to start their recovery journeys and continue this support upon release.

This past month, recovery walks and events have been held across all of Scotland's prisons as a way of bringing together the recovery community.

From football tournaments and 5K runs, to bake-off challenges, yoga sessions and art therapy - staff have worked incredibly hard to deliver a programme of activities.

Many prisons have also welcomed musicians, authors, comedians, Therapets and guest speakers with lived experience, which have been of significant value to individuals in custody.

Prison Chaplains have led special services to remember those who have tragically lost their lives to substance misuse. Individuals have been given the opportunity to make memorial pieces or messages of hope to display within establishment gardens.

Recovery Month may be over for another year but with a culture of recovery embedded across the SPS estate, support continues all year round.
