A hip-hop workshop at HMP Barlinnie has provided individuals with an outlet to encourage their creativity and improve their mental health.

Funded by Creative Scotland, the 8 week course was devised by Jill Brown of Conviction Records, Scotland's first record label for ex-offenders.

Alongside singer, songwriter and tutor Becci Wallace, individuals have been encouraged to write lyrics. For some this has been a completely new, but very effective way, of expressing their emotions, reflecting on their pasts and their hopes for the future.

With the help of hip-hop producer Jordan Carey, these lyrics and ideas have been developed over the weeks and every individual has now created a finished recording.
