PRISONS across Scotland have been observing Armistice Day with special remembrance services, poppy displays and art projects.

In HMP Shotts, individuals engaged with Fife College designed and created a new Armistice Day Mural which aims to highlight the passage of time through the changing technologies of the armed forces.

It was developed to create a communal focal point for individuals to engage with the legacies of our armed forces and to encourage the act of remembrance from the wider HMP Shotts community. During a recent visit to the establishment, Graham Dey, Minister for Higher and Further Education and Minister for Veterans officially unveiled the artwork.

On Remembrance Sunday, a short service was held in the Memorial Garden, at which time people in our care had the opportunity to plant small wooden crosses made by individuals from the Occupational workshop. Two staff members also attended the service at the Cenotaph in Shotts Village to lay a poppy wreath from the establishment.
