This final report sets out the achievements against our Equality Outcomes 2017 – 2020 under the Scottish specific duty.

Our Outcomes have been shaped by consultation, engagement, national research reports and surveys, our own databases and monitoring information, staff associations, equality groups and networks, partner organisations and professional knowledge and experience.

These equality outcomes will embed our refreshed commitment, vision and principles under equality diversity and human rights which are fundamental to the way we work.

This report sets out the progress we have made with Mainstreaming equality into the Scottish Prison Service (SPS), over the period April 2021 - 2023, covering the work that we have achieved in the context of SPS as an employer as well as activities that we have undertaken to mainstream equalities into the services we provide for people in our care.

Gender pay gap reporting is not the same as paying men and women equally for doing like-for-like work – our Job Evaluation process ensures we do that – but instead looks at the distribution of men and women through all pay levels of the organisation, the hours they work, and the effect this has on average hourly rates of pay. This report is a snapshot of our pay and gender as of 30 March 2022.

In 2017 the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations pertaining to gender pay came into force, requiring all organisations with 250 or more employees to publish their Gender Pay Gap (GPG).

Under the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties)(Scotland) Regulations the SPS is required to comply with the three aims of the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).
