The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBC SSO) shares its passion for music in a wide range of settings in communities across the country. But for the first time ever, they have delivered music sessions in one of Scotland's prisons.

Associate Artist Lucy Drever and musicians from the BBC SSO delivered three family music sessions in HMP Low Moss, using songs, playing instruments, rhymes and stories, as a way of creating meaning memories between people in custody and their children and families.

Developed in partnership with SPS staff and Early Years Scotland, the music sessions offer a unique way for families to spend time together, away from the usual confines of the prison visit room.

Karen Norrie, Governor of HMP Low Moss, said: “We fully understand the impact imprisonment has on the families of those in our care and the importance maintaining positive relationships can have on individuals in custody and their loved ones. We are particularly keen that children are able to enjoy natural and memorable moments with a parent in custody, that so many other young people are able to take for granted. This partnership with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra has delivered that in a way which is new and innovative and we are grateful to Lucy and the team for all their hard work and look forward to continuing our partnership.”
