Women and young men in our care at HMP & YOI Polmont have shared their own lived experience in the hope of steering others away from a life of crime and gangs.

Working alongside Renfrewshire charity I Am Me Scotland, their pre-prison life stories have been turned into a series of films to raise awareness of issues including child exploitation, county lines drug dealing, human trafficking and grooming.

It's the first time that people in custody at in HMP & YOI Polmont have been involved in a project of this kind.

STV visited the establishment to hear from Ryan and Michaela, who's stories were featured in the films, where they discussed their hopes for the project's impact on others facing similar situations.

They also spoke to Community Safety Officer, Tommy Steele, and Carol Burt-Wilson, founder of I Am Me, about how the project developed, and support in place for those who took part.

The films and accompanying lesson packages are to be shown across the prison service, other secure care institutions, and high schools in the coming months.
